As announced on their official site yesterday evening, Notts County have announced the signing of former Crewe Alexandra forward Callum Saunders following a trial at the club on a one-year deal.

Having come through the academy system with at the Alexandra Stadium, he made his senior debut at the age of 19 in the opening game of the 2014/15 season in a 2-1 away defeat at Fleetwood Town before making another 5 appearances during that season. He gained more game time in the following season, getting on the scoresheet away at Doncaster Rovers in December and at home to Colchester United in April as he made 19 appearances before seeing his chances of first team action limited again last season, having only made 5 appearances.

Upon signing with the Meadow Lane, Saunders said the following, ‘I’m delighted to be here. I came in on trial initially but luckily the gaffer has taken a chance on me and hopefully I can replay him. I like to run in behind defenders, stretch teams and run the channels. We have a couple of target men so hopefully I can bring something a bit different.”

His manager Kevin Nolan had the following to say, ‘We are pleased to have him here. I have spoken to his dad, Dean, a lot and he said Callum just needs a chance. You know he will not go home and be told the wrong things. He will have good influences around him – his dad knows what it takes to be a professional.’
