No, not the imminent Doctor Who announcement. Gudjon Thordarson takes the reigns of Crewe Alex for the first time today with a trip to Millwall in the FA Cup 3rd Round.

The former Stokie is the first ‘outsider’ in over a quarter of a decade to take the top job at Gresty Road. Maybe he’s not got the most glamorous name and nor has he struggled to fit the trophies in the back of his car in the move, but he’s now the manager of our team and we should support him all the way.

His first match at Millwall comes only a couple of weeks after the respectable 0-0 drawn earnt there in the league game. However, after a week of watching the players train it’s unlikely Gudjon will make wholesale changes to the team – mainly because he can’t.

There’s still a coach load injured with Michael O’Connor, Eugen Bopp and Anthony Elding falling ill. So last week’s debutant Shelley looks set to continue in the team alongside fellow youngster Luke Murphy.

It’s a team you wouldn’t have given much of a chance only a month ago but with last week’s fantastic 1-4 win under their belt, if there any reason why we can’t make it into the Fourth Round?
