Norwich City manager Glenn Roeder has rubbished speculation that his young striker Chris Martin is joining Crewe on loan. The former Newcastle boss was baffled at where the talk of the move had come from as he asks the teenager to prove himself with the Canaries.

Martin was linked with a short term loan deal yesterday by The Sentinel newspaper and a deal was reported to be close, but as Roeder explains, there’s been no contact with Crewe over Martin.

He told the Norwich Official Website: ‘No. I know Steve Holland very well,’ ‘

‘I did my pro licence with Steve last year. He’s a fantastic human being and an excellent coach and he would definitely have rung me up. 100 per cent he would have done. And he hasn’t.’

Meanwhile, Steve Holland has confirmed that whilst he’s still looking for new players to come in on loan it is unlikely any deal will be struck before Tuesday’s game against Carlisle.

‘A centre-forward is our priority but we’re unlikely to have one in before Tuesday.’ Holland told the media.
