Dave Richards Leaves On Loan

|

Crewe Alexandra have announced that goalkeeper Dave Richards has joined Scottish Premiership club St. Johnstone on a season-long loan deal, wearing the number 31 shirt for his loanee club.

Richards, 29, started his career at Cardiff City (spending time on loan at Llanelli and Chippenham Town) then joined Bristol City in October 2013, initially on loan before making it permanent the following January. He would make the move to South Cheshire in the summer of 2015 and made 94 appearances in all competitions for the Alex, including 13 last season.

He becomes the sixth player to have been contracted to the two clubs as he joins Graham Barrett, Marcus Haber, Alan Maybury, Alex Merrie and Jimmy Ward to have done so.

What does this mean going forward?

He’s at an age where he needs to be playing football rather than just being a backup player (behind a couple of teenagers in Harvey Davies and Tom Booth) – he’ll be battling with Dimitar Mitov (formerly of Cambridge United) and Ross Sinclair for the keeper position during his time in Perth.
