Defenders Goals See Second-Half Comeback

|

Goals from Zac Williams and Rio Adebisi saw Crewe Alexandra come from two goals down for the second straight Saturday against Swindon Town at the County Ground.

Manager Lee Bell made 4 changes from Tuesday’s penalties win at Sunderland in the Carabao Cup as Adebisi, Mickey Demetriou, Conor Thomas and Chris Long came in for Ryan Cooney, Connor O’Riordan, Matus Holicek and Lewis Billington, who all dropped down to the bench, while former Alex midfielder Tariq Uwakwe would start on the hosts’ bench.

The opening opportunity fell to the hosts in the 13th minute as Khan would have an effort saved by Harvey Davies before they would take the lead midway through the first half as Udoka Godwin-Malife headed in a knock-down from Benn Ward. Jack Powell and Luke Offord would make blocks late in the half before Adebisi would curl over at the other end.

The lead would be extended a couple of minutes after the break as Frazer Blake-Tracey found half-time sub Jake Young whose shot on the turn found the bottom corner of Davies’ goal before the lead was halved on the hour-mark with Williams scoring his first senior goal with a drive from 20 yards out into the bottom corner. Long would test Murphy Mahoney with a free-kick on 73 minutes before the equaliser came with 5 minutes to play as Joel Tabiner’s cross was headed in at the back post by Adebisi to score for the third consecutive league game.

The next couple of games see the Alex host Newport County on Tuesday before hosting Walsall next Saturday.

Final Thoughts:

Hopefully, we’ll stop waiting until we are a couple of goals behind before we start playing which coincided with the arrival of Holicek at half-time, coming on for the booked Thomas. Speaking of bookings, referee Jackson lost control of the game by booking half of the starting players.
