Crewe Alexandra have confirmed that German forward Bassala Sambou has become the first signing of the January transfer window, arriving from Dutch club Fortuna Sittard and has signed an 18-month deal.
Sambou, 24, started his career at Coventry City before having a spell at Everton and joining Fortuna in 2019, spending time at Randers in Denmark during the 2020-21 season.
What are the Alex getting from the signing of Sambou?
He’s not someone that I’ve come across but doesn’t have a good goalscoring record in his career to date (3 goals in 56 league appearances since playing his first game, which was at Fortuna) – something that is quite worrying with the Alex struggling for goals.
looking at his Transfermarkt page from this season, he’s not played for Fortuna since the end of October so will need games to get up to speed – maybe that ‘unknown injury’ was a trial with the Alex with him playing for the Under-23s on Tuesday.
