Stockport County manager Jim Gannon wasn’t going to be drawn over the link with him and the Alex hot seat.

The former Alex defender has slowly emerged the favourite to take over from Steve Holland this week, and having beaten us with an impressive County side yesterday it can only serve to impress Chairman John Bowler.

Gannon is known to still have close links with Dario Gradi since his 6 month spell at the club 7 years ago and with Dario, as Technical Director, expected to have a large say in who takes over; Gannon would not be far from the top of his list.

Gannon recently spoke of his admiration for the Railwaymen, admitting he had modeled Stockport on the club – with youngsters and ‘total football’ taking priority.

Whilst Crewe trail some 21 points and 16 places behind Stockport in the League One table, the offer from us is expected to be highly tempting. Top notch facilities and a highly respected academy is not often found at this level, whilst the club are also expected to throw in a wage packet that could be near a six figure sum.

Gannon, whilst not dismissing the job outright, says he’s perfectly happy at Stockport despite rejecting an ‘unacceptable’ offer just two weeks ago.

‘I am very committed to Stockport. I haven’t renewed my contract, but I am happy to stay on my existing one-year rolling deal.

‘I’ve asked a lot of people to commit to Stockport and I hold a great responsibility to these people, so I’m enjoying myself here and hopefully I can carry on enjoying it.’

We’ll see.
