Fixtures Announced

So, the new fixtures are out and the first and last games of the season will no doubt get the most attention. However, following our relegation to League One, there will be many grounds which some fans will be yet to experience, so Vital Crewe has decided to elucidate some of the delights of the 2007-08 campaign.

Although the Withdean isn’t quite the Millenium Stadium, another August trip to Brighton has potential. Despite last season’s trip to Brighton, also in August, being one of the worst Crewe games I have ever attended, should the weather improve from the torrential rain which accompanied last year’s 2-2 draw, a weekend trip to Brighton might just be a pleasant surprise.

However, several of these trips could also live long in the memory for all the wrong reasons. Trips to Blackpool, Bournemouth, Brentford and Brighton will rely heavily on good weather, as a lack of cover for away fans could make for a depressing day. Grimsby away in the first round of the Carling Cup appears to be another humiliation just waiting to happen, with last year’s trouncing at Lincoln draining much of my romanticised cup-hope out of me.


Whatever the outcome of certain trips, much of next season’s enjoyment will depend on how we adapt to what is reknowned as being a difficult, physical and inconsistent division. A poor season will make us look like boys against men, whilst a good season will reignite the hope of our last promotion season, where our youngsters made many other sides look like a Sunday league team.
