McCready Departs

Chris McCready has provided the surprise of the summer by rejecting the club’s generous offer of a two-year deal and has subsequently decided to leave the club. McCready stated that he feels ‘ready for a fresh challenge somewhere else’.

Quite where this ‘somewhere else’ is is unknown, though McCready has been in talks with League Two side Shrewsbury. McCready has suffered with injuries during his time at the club but Dario felt the time was right to offer McCready a two-year deal for the first time. McCready wasn’t exactly a fans’ favourite amongst the majority of the Alex faithful, some of whom will be pleasantly surprised by his departure.

McCready’s decision to shun his contract is either a very brave one, or a very stupid one. Whether or not he has already been offered a deal elsewhere is unknown, though if he has left the club simply to try to better himself then good luck to the guy. However, it would be very surprising indeed if McCready were to find himself a club higher up the leagues than Crewe.

McCready’s departure leaves Dario with just Neil Cox and Julien Baudet as experienced centre-backs at the club. Vital Crewe revealed 3 weeks ago that Morecambe’s Darran Kempson had been earmarked as a potential replacement (Morecambe Man McCready Backup), and McCready’s departure virtually guarantees the trialist signing for the club. In fact, Dario recently declared that he was likely to sign the defender even if McCready stayed, so McCready’s departure may result in one or two more centre backs being brought in, in addition to Kempson.

    Shrewsbury…backwards Chris? Fair enough!

Its only fair if the bloke thinks he can better himself, but unless he’s been tapped up he may find himself without a club.
