Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis revealed that Zoumana Bakayogo rejected approaches from a couple of other clubs before committing for next season.

The 29-year-old finally agreed to a one-year deal with the Railwaymen and with the option of a second. He’d previously signed a short-term contract in January while making his way back from cruciate knee trouble.

“I’m obviously pleased with getting it through because it seemed it wasn’t going to happen at one point,” Davis told the Stoke Sentinel. “I’m delighted he’s decided to stay.

“It was one of those things when you have to try to remain patient. His agent said all along that he thought it was in his best interests to sign,” he added. “He had another couple of offers that he had to consider and he spoke to two other clubs so we’re really pleased he’s decided to stay. He’ll be a real asset for us.”
