Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis felt his side deserved to take all three points away with them from Walsall.

“The players were down for the fans because they were terrific” – Steve Davis

Leading marksman Chuks Aneke gave them the lead shortly after the break but Mark Ellis headed past his own goalkeeper late in the 1-1 draw at the Banks’s Stadium.

“It was a hard pill to swallow tonight and
I am gutted for them because the shape and discipline was excellent,” Davis told Crewe’s official website. “I thought we deserved the clean-sheet but we just ran out of legs a bit in the final 10 minutes.

“I thought we had the won the game and Mark was distraught afterwards but the defence was superb,” he continued. “Everyone is disappointed and the players were down for the fans because they were terrific here but there is plenty of spirit and life in this group.”
