Manager Steve Davis admitted the travelling fans deserved better as Crewe Alexandra slipped to a disappointing weekend 2-0 defeat at Portsmouth.

“After what has happened over the last year, the supporters expect better and demand better” – Steve Davis

The visitors were always chasing the contest after their opponents scored twice during the opening twenty minutes at Fratton Park.

The Alex certainly rallied following the break but always appeared to have far too much to do as they suffered a first defeat in three games.

“We took over 300 to Shrewsbury on Tuesday night and it was a similar number at Portsmouth,” Davis told Crewe’s official website. “We didn’t give them enough to cheer about and the players know they have to do better, especially in the first half. After what has happened over the last year, the supporters expect better and demand better.”
