Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis accepts it will be difficult going forward with much the same squad as last season.

The Railwaymen managed only seven league victories on their way to being relegated after finishing bottom of the table. Their record included 29 defeats in 49 games in all competitions.

“It’s clear 26 league defeats in a season is nowhere near good enough,” Davis told the Stoke Sentinel. “If we are going to get promoted next season then we need to turn those 26 defeats in to wins.

“We will need to win that many games so it requires a big turnaround. It’s a big job, but we know what we have to do,” he added. “It’s a hard job, no one is kidding themselves about that. There are some exciting players at this club, we now need to get the right players in alongside them.”
