There weren’t many positives to be had from the Liverpool friendly, but Dario was impressed with new left back Billy Jones.

Billy (pictured) joined from Exeter City in June for a fee of £60,000 after a couple of months of speculation. The former Leyton Orient defender made his first appearance in an Alex shirt on Saturday and impressed the management and fans alike with his cool defending and excellent deliveries.

Technical Director Dario Gradi reserved special praise for Jones, telling crewealex.net:

“The left-back looked everything I thought he would. Against very good opposition too.

‘Billy settled in nicely and gave us some good balance on that side of the pitch. His temperament was good; he certainly didn’t flap in possession and showed that he had a good left foot.’

Billy will be involved in one of tomorrow’s games against Quorn or Alsager. He could possibly line-up with his former Exeter City team mate Danny Woodards again, as Danny returns from a groin injury.
