Crewe take on Accrington Stanley at Gresty Road this Tuesday night knowing that anything but a win will make it very difficult to get something to show for this season.

Stanley are currently in transition after manager of 12-and-a-half years John Coleman left for Rochdale. New manager Paul Cook will be desperate for a victory in only his second game in charge, following Saturday’s 4-0 home defeat at the hands of Plymouth Argyle.

Vital Quotes:

Alex manager Steve Davis has made it clear that he wants more from his strikers who have failed to find the net in the last two fixtures.

Speaking to the official website with regards to Saturday’s defeat at Southend, Davis said: ‘It was a tight game on Saturday against the team at the top of the league but we needed more of a threat from our front three.

‘Our biggest threat came from Murph on Saturday, but we didn’t have enough efforts at goal. We need the forwards to start scoring goals more regularly.’

Crewe Team News:

Adam Dugdale will serve the final game of his suspension tonight whilst defensive loanee James Tunnicliffe (shoulder) will miss out too. Harry Davis is set to partner David Artell at the heart of the Crewe defence.

Lee Bell and Danny Shelley are in contention for a place in midfield alongside Ashley Westwood and Luke Murphy

Player to watch: Shaun Miller

The striker has struggled this season and hasn’t scored since September. But a return to the side in recent weeks has seen confidence return to the Alsager man, and you feel that it’s only a matter of time before he finds the net once more

Accrington Stanley Team News:

Defender Sean Hessey will face a late fitness test on his hamstring having missed the visitors’ last game against Plymouth.

Hull loanee Jamie Devitt could start in midfield whilst Padraig Amond could be in line to come in up front

Player to watch: Bryan Hughes

With bags of experience the midfielder is still tremendously useful at this level and Crewe’s young midfield would do well to hassle him and not allow him time on the ball
