Crewe look to be moving closer to securing a new striker after talks commence between Crewe Alexandra and the unnamed player’s club.

Steve Holland has already confirmed that he’s spoken to the mystery player and the said player has shown willingness to sign for the Alex. A deal is still to be struck with the player’s club however, but Holland revealed today that chairman John Bowler is on the case.

Holland told crewealex.net: ‘We have made progress on one or two fronts and talks are continuing. It is moving as fast as you would expect it too at this stage of the season.

‘We have made an enquiry about a striker and any deal would involve a transfer fee. John Bowler is in discussions with the club’s chairman and we hope to find out over the next few days if that has proved successful or not.

‘He would be our number one transfer target and we would hope would make a difference to our team. We are not that interested in adding squad players. I have enough of those already.’

Holland has not given much away as to the identity of the player with players from Rotherham’s Chris O’Grady to Peterborough’s Danny Crow to Middlesbrough’s Tom Craddock being mentioned by fans.
