Crewe Alex: Not Up To It

Following the sacking of his father, the departure of Harry Davis has looked a certainty, and Dave Artell today confirmed that Davis is seeking a move away, hence his absence from the squad.

Clearly, he feels that his place within the Alex setup is untenable. The question here has to be this: was he given no option but to leave as it was awkward for him to continue in the squad? Or is this Harry pushing his toys out of the pram because his daddy got sacked.

Look at other father-son parings – for example Collin Todd signed his son Andy Todd on multiple occasions; what about Steve and Alex Bruce? Bob and Michael Bradley of the USMNT?

I wonder what it’s like playing under your dad? I can’t help but think that wherever Steve Davis ends up next, though, there might just be Harry… and even a Joe playing centre back there too.

Or we’ll see Harry Davis at Port Vale. That’s quite possible too.

I wish Harry well. Clearly things haven’t worked out quite as well as they should have. I have always thought he had something about him: he’s certainly better on the ball than most League 2 centre backs. However, he hasn’t kicked on and proven himself sufficiently to warrant a place in this squad anyway, and even without his dad leaving, I’d probably say he was reaching the end of the road here at Crewe.

We’re freeing up wages now. Let’s hope we can spend this money well.
