Crewe Alexandra have confirmed a pre-season trip to Bulgaria after Steve Holland gave the all-clear this week.

The trip is being funded by Bulgarian club FC Maritsa’s chairman Rangel Berberov, who is said to be a keen follower of the Alex. In return Crewe will play a game at Maritsa’s ground.

After checking the facilities in Bulgaria this weekend, Holland was happy to agree to the trip. He told the Crewe Alex official site: ‘It was a really worthwhile trip and the key to it was meeting the President of Maritsa and his right hand man. They have made a great effort to accommodate us and you can tell that this is a big thing for them.

‘The trip will end with a match against FC Maritsa. The big attraction for them is us going over there and they are comfortable with us utilising our squad in the match. We will probably play one team in the first half and one in the second half and it should be a good experience for everyone.’

Holland confirmed that the team will be staying just outside the Sunny Beach area in the east of Bulgaria and although exact dates are yet to be confirmed the trip will take place in the second week of July.
