The defender whose time at Crewe was blighted by injury has been training with the Cobblers after failing to win a deal at Championship side Charlton.
Northampton went down 3-1 to League One side MK Dons in their final match of pre-season.
The Dons had two former Crewe players in the squad, defender Danny Woodards played the full game whilst midfielder Mark Carrington came on as a 2nd half sub for Paul Ince`s side.
After the match Northampton boss Stuart Gray confirmed that McCready had been offered terms with the club.
He told the offical site: ‘We’ve made him an offer and we’re waiting for a decision to come back, so fingers crossed that will bolster the defence up a little bit. He’s got that experience at the back.’
