Crewe Alexandra have completed the signing of Chelsea midfielder Tariq Uwakwe on a permanent 18-month deal, becoming the second transfer of the January window following the signing of German striker Bassala Sambou yesterday.
Uwakwe, 22, has spent all of his career at Chelsea apart from a half-season loan spell at Accrington Stanley where he made 21 appearances in all competitions, scoring 4 goals in the process.
He has represented England at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-20 levels.
What are the Alex getting from the signing of Uwakwe?
He is a central midfielder who can also play as a wing-back who is comfortable on the ball and, going off this video, looks as though he’s got an eye for goal and a progressive pass. Having a player like this in the midfield set-up could see us get more goals from midfield positions (he even got a hat-trick in his spell with Accrington in the EFL Trophy).
