Bolton Sign Sarcevic

|

Bolton Wanderers have completed the signing of former Crewe Alexandra midfielder Antoni Sarcevic on a 2-year deal, becoming their second signing of the summer under new boss Ian Evatt after last season’s League 2 Golden Boot winner Eoin Doyle joined them last week.

Sarcevic, 28, joined the Alex from local non-league side Woodley Sports in May 2010 but would struggle to make the jump from the 8th tier to the Football League at the time, making just 16 appearances for the Railwaymen before being sold to Chester for an undisclosed fee in November the following year. He would score 17 times in his second season with The Blues from midfield, resulting in Fleetwood Town signing him before spending a 6-month spell at Shrewsbury Town in 2016 and signing for Plymouth Argyle in January 2017.

He would win the Player of the Season award in his final season with the Pilgrims as the club were promoted into League 1.

What are Bolton getting from the signing of Sarcevic?

Antoni is a goal-scoring midfielder who can also play as a box-to-box midfielder. Whilst we didn’t see him at his best during his spell with the Alex 10 years ago, he has developed into a good player at this level and I’m a little surprised that he has joined a League 2 club this summer as his performances for Plymouth last season were of a level that would have seen him as a good League 1 player for the forthcoming campaign.
