Crewe Alexandra left back Billy Jones is set to leave the club in January after expressing his wish to move on once his contract expires this summer.

The former Exeter left back has been out of the side since Dario re-took for the reigns and it looks as though he could have made one of his last appearances in a red shirt.

On the back of yesterday’s news that League One Southend United are interested in the 26 year old, Dario Gradi confirmed this morning that the club will be seeking to sell Billy in the next transfer window.

Speaking to the official website, crewealex.net, Dario said that Jones has decided not to renew his contract, which expires this summer, and is looking to move on.

Southend asked about Billy a few weeks ago now but he was injured and we can use him here anyway.

‘We would allow Billy to leave in January because he has already come to me and said he wants a change in the summer. I would expect a fee for him but we will circulate his details then.’

Jones joined the Alex from then Conference side Exeter City for a fee of £65,000.
