Assistant manager Neil Baker watched Wales U-21’s Simon Church this evening as they took on Malta U-21’s. Church, a 18 year old striker who plays for Reading, is the newest name on the long list of potential targets as Crewe attempt to boost their attacking options.

Fortunately for Bakes, the trip was not wasted. Church started the game and was possibly the star player, creating and having most of the chances. He went on to score the second goal as Wales U-21s ran out 3-1 winners against their Maltese counterparts.

Should the Alex wish to pursue a deal, a season long loan would probably be welcomed by Reading & Church. However, his age may pose some questions from Alex fans.

Owain Fon Williams also played for Wales in the match as he grows ever nearer to his first team debut for Crewe.
