Long time assistant manager Neil Baker could be about to depart the club after being interview for the vacant managers job at Burton Albion.

Recently promoted to League Two from the Blue Square Premier Albion have been looking for a successor to Nigel Clough, who left them for Derby earlier in the season.

Media reports suggest that, having been recommended to Burton by Clough, Baker was interviewed for the job last Friday and is in the running with former Carlisle boss John Ward.

Baker has been at the Alex for over 15 years having been assistant under Dario, Steve Holland and Gudjon Thordarson. He arrived having led non-league Leek Town through their most successful period in the club’s history.

Recent rumours suggest that Baker could be leaving the club in the summer regardless, with Baker wanting a managerial job having twice been overlooked at Gresty Road in recent years and Gudjon Thordarson wishing to bring in his own coaching staff.
