And we’re off…

It’s taken two months but the inevitable seems to be upon us as Nicky Maynard starts packing his bags. That kind of talk may be a bit premature at the moment it’s hard to see past a departure for Nicky before August 9th.

When he was scoring his 11 goals in the last 9 league games of the season you always knew it was probably the last we’d see of him, always looking that class above as he almost single handed dragged us away from the gloomy League Two.

He’s without doubt the club’s biggest asset at the moment, whether he can still improve further and whether he would benefit from another season no longer seems to matter. If the right bid comes in we know, rightly or wrongly, that Maynard will be leaving.

Without official confirmation it’s all talk at the moment. Sky Sports are saying Ipswich have lodged a bid of over £1million whilst fan talk suggests both Ipswich and Premiership Hull City have had bids of £1.5million rejected by the club.

If true it looks like £2million will be the fee to clinch Maynard and with the likes of Middlesbrough and Fulham also keeping an eye on things it’s unlikely clubs will be put off by that fee for long. One thing we are good at is negotiating a good deal for players.

Whilst we wait for any official news on the situation, let’s do some YouTubing….
