All Change Elsewhere

We aren’t doing much business but our former, ahem, heroes are hitching themselves up.

We’ve already said about Kenny Lunt to Hereford and Chris McCready on trial at Gillingham. Two academy boys no longer wanted at their club will either be facing us next season or playing at a higher level.

The same can be said for Steve Jones, the ‘Derry Dasher’ (that brings back the memories) sealed a two year deal at Walsall today. His career post-Crewe has hardly been glittering, even his return loan spell last year was a tad depressing, but League One still beckons.

Colchester today signed Ben Williams. He’s not everyone’s cup of tea but The U’s splashed out £60,000 on the keeper.

Looking higher up and Dean Ashton is probably showering hourly to rid himself of the dirt after strong rumours linking him with a move to Stoke City. Tony Pulis still isn’t ruling out a move for Ashton unfortunately.

The craziest transfer of the summer is that of former loanee Ross Turnbull joining Chelsea. His loan spell here was pretty underwhelming for a player now third choice at one of the world’s biggest clubs.

In the Championship Rob Hulse is being linked with a multi million pound move to Middlesbrough. It’s a move that really wouldn’t help us, seeing as it’d give Derby the funds to go and up their offer for John Brayford.

Rolling back the years and Dele Adebola is now a Forest player. Years after it looked as though his career was in the pits, Dele has pulled it round and even made himself a Bristol City hero last season. Unfortunately there’s no longer that dream partnership with Nicky Maynard.

Shooting back down the leagues, former academy goal scorer Kyle Wilson made his way back into professional football this summer with a move from FC United to Macclesfield.

Talking of semi-pro football, the legend Michael Higdon left Falkirk after two years to join equally poor SPL side St Mirren, whilst former loanee Patrick Boyle joined Partick Thistle in the league below.

Finally, back in England, and this isn’t strictly an ex-player. Cheltenham’s Damian Spencer, who only missed out on a six figure transfer to Gresty Road last year due to a dodgy knee, has signed for Blue Square Premier (The Conference to you and me) side Kettering. On a free transfer. Begs the question…. how could we miss out on such a player, Mr Holland!?
