Alex Out Of FA Youth Cup Thanks To Late Goals

|

Late goals from Louis Bennett and substitute Will Jarvis give Hull City the win in the FA Youth Cup first round against Crewe Alexandra at the Alexandra Stadium last night.

Manager Lee Bell named Thomas Booth in goal with a back 4 of Fenton Green, Connor O’Riordan, Michael Williams and Sean Lawton. In front of them were midfielders Joel Tabiner, Matthew McDonald and Charlie Finney while Kyle Stubbs and Joe Levey played either side of Connor Salisbury up front.

The opening chance of the game came in the 4th minute with Hull midfielder Beckett bringing a save out of Booth before Finney had an effort from distance that curled wide. Salisbury would test Harry Fisk in the visitors’ goal midway through the half before Josh Hinds and Beckett would come close for the visitors.

Salisbury was denied by Fisk again with the Alex forward volleying goalwards from close range before Hinds would curl a free-kick onto the roof of the net from just outside the area.

Finney would hit the post on the hour-mark from just inside the area with the ball cleared by a Hull defender. The visitors would take the lead with 10 minutes to play with a cross turned in by Beckett on the break from an Alex free-kick before they almost doubled the lead a few minutes later as a corner was cleared back out to taker Beckett whose cross was headed against the crossbar by Jevon Mills. The second goal came in stoppage-time with Jarvis dispossessing Booth following a quick free-kick before rolling the ball into the empty net.

The next games at this level for the Alex are at Watford on Saturday afternoon before a trip to Wigan on Saturday 21st. The two sides will meet again at Hull on the final Saturday before Christmas.
