A good day for us

Steve Holland was delighted to see his team edge closer to safety with a 3-0 win over Yeovil Town on Saturday. Two Nicky Maynard goals either side of half time set the Alex on their way to their fourth away win of the season before Tom Pope wrapped it up with a 90th minute third.

It moved Crewe three points away from the bottom four after Gillingham lost to Swansea, and with three games left to play there is now reason for optimism at Gresty Road.

On Saturday’s win, Holland told crewealex.net: ‘We prepared the players the same as we did last week against Southend but the start we made was totally different. From starting poorly and conceding an early goal, we started well and scored an early goal.

‘It was a first clean sheet in five so that is good also. If we can continue in this form then we will be fine. We are only thinking about ourselves still. There is work to be done and it is a big game again at home against Cheltenham next Saturday.

‘It was a good day for us here and the result brings some other clubs into it. Now we just need another three good days.’

With Cheltenham up on Saturday a win could secure safety on all but goal difference should Gillingham lose to Bristol Rovers on the same day.
