Zola Wants More Money

&titlecoloDario has shed light on Calvin Zola’s indecision of late. After being told he can leave on loan over a week ago, Zola has turned down what seemed to be pretty decent offers at Southend, Bradford, Burton and, yesterday, promotion chasing Shrewsbury Town.

Today, Dario was slightly miffed after Zola confirmed he wouldn’t be signing for the Shrews despite talks yesterday. The 25 year old is now looking increasingly likely to stay at Gresty Road after deciding he’d have no-one to take his child to school if he moved too far away!

On top of that, Dario says that Zola is looking for a permanent move away from the Alex – with an increase in wages along the way;

‘Calvin hasn’t gone out on loan. He is still here but then he has said he is looking to go on loan if there is a permanent move at the end of it.

‘I think he wants an increase in wages as well and Shrewsbury weren’t prepared to do that.’

Calvin really seems to have burnt his bridges over the last couple of weeks. He was left out of the squad for today’s game and, after failing to impress on the pitch and in training this season, Dario seems to really have lost his patience. Although DG is adamant that Zola’s exclusion from today’s side was anything to do with Zola’s transfer status, I think it’s fair to say it’s not helped things.

The question now is: who will be looking to take Zola on the permanent deal he wants? He’s reportedly on pretty decent wages already at this level and when you’re a player not even getting games at your current club, a wage increase is hardly going to be forthcoming.

So will have to try and make the most out of Zola for the final months of his contract, which expires in June, or do we leave a very expensive player to ‘rot’ in the reserves?
