Crewe hope that number one transfer target Calvin Zola will be granted a work permit on Friday.

The club will attend the hearing that will decided if the 23 year old can complete his move to Gresty Road from Tranmere Rovers.

The Congo born striker has been in the country since signing for Newcastle United’s academy as a 16 year old. He’s not previously had trouble getting a work permit, though a problem with his visa saw him out of the game for six months in 2005.

Dario Gradi revealed that the work permit remains the only stumbling block in securing the target man. Speaking to CreweAlex.net Gradi said: ‘We are to attend a hearing to see if we are to be granted a work permit for Calvin (Zola) or not.

‘The only stumbling block could be the work permit as the lad is keen to come here and everything else has been sorted out in readiness to him signing for us. Calvin has always been our number one transfer target because we feel he fits the bills for what we need.’

Zola will sign a three year deal in a £100,000 move should his work permit be granted.
