Young Striker Heads Out On Loan To Replace Former Alex Forward

|

Crewe Alexandra have announced that striker Lewis Reilly has joined National League North side AFC Telford United on loan, initially for a month, this afternoon. The Bucks will be hoping that he’ll have the same impact as their top scorer from last season, former Alex striker Daniel Udoh who left the club to join Shrewsbury Town in the summer (who scored for the Shrews on his debut on Tuesday night).

Reilly, 20, has been a regular in Alex Morris’ Under-23 side over the past couple of seasons but has struggled to get game time at first-team level despite getting plenty for the development side. He has had spells on loan at Halesowen Town and Curzon Ashton last season.

He is available to play in Telford’s game at Southport tomorrow afternoon.

What are Telford getting out of the signing of Reilly?

Lewis is a tall striker who is a good finisher inside the penalty area, as his time with the Under-23s and his loan spells have proved, and he uses good positioning rather than a quick burst of pace to find space in the penalty area.

He will benefit from playing regular first-team football and I’d imagine that he will spend the majority of this season out on loan, whether that is with Telford or at a National League club.
