Arsenal Keeper Okonkwo Joins On Loan

|

Crewe Alexandra have completed the signing of goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo on a season-long loan from Arsenal, the club’s eighth signing of the summer transfer window.

Okonkwo, 20, has come through the academy at Arsenal without making his debut for their senior team but has represented their Under-21s side in the EFL Trophy during the past couple of seasons against Crawley Town in the 20/21 season and Plymouth Argyle last season.

He has also represented England at Under-16, -17 and -18 levels during his career.

What will the signing mean for the club?

Whilst he doesn’t have much senior football under his belt at this stage of his career, he’s highly regarded at Arsenal (including by manager Mikel Arteta) and should be our first-choice goalkeeper during the season.

From the Youtube videos showing his best bits (and yes I know what that means), he’s a good shot-stopper and penalty-saving keeper but it’ll be interesting to see how well he comes for crosses, both in open play and from set pieces.
