Crewe Alexandra recovered to complete a 2-1 victory against Carlisle United in their FA Youth Cup first round tie at Gresty Road on Wednesday evening.

The Alex enjoyed the better of the opening half but found themselves behind soon after the break when Pat Brough was released to slot past Robbie Johnson via the post.

But the hosts were back level with twenty minutes remaining as Liam Wilson set up Brandon Moores to equalise.

Carlisle keeper Jordan Parker had already produced a number of fine saves by the time midfielder Billy Waters struck an extra-time winner from 20-yards – to earn the hosts a tie against either Halifax or Scunthorpe in the next round.
