Crewe academy youngsters Max Clayton and Nick Powell have been called up to the England U-16 squad for their forthcoming game against Belgium.

Clayton and Powell will travel to Belgium for the friendly on February 9th after being called up to the squad by England U-16 coach Kenny Swain, Dario’s former player and assisant.

It’ll be Powell’s second call to the England squad having previously featured during the youngsters Victory Shield campaign last year, whilst it’ll be Clayton’s first taste of international duty after injury prevented him joining the squad for the Victory Shield.

The pair will be the only players below League One to feature in the Under-16 squad and Alex fans will be keeping a keen eye on Max Clayton. Clayton, son of former Alex player Paul Clayton, has already been subject to rumours and controversy. Most recently Dario revealed that Premiership clubs had attempted to ‘tap up’ the youngster with fears that Clayton may never pen a professional contract with the European heavyweights circling.

England U-16s face Belgium at Stade du Pairay, Seraing, Belgium on February 9th with a 7:00pm kick off in preparation for the Montaigu Tournament which kicks off at the end of March.
