Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis says dealing with players’ agents has been the key to progress in the transfer market this summer.

“The most important thing I’ve done is to get to know the agents” – Steve Davis

Davis has already recruited defender Thierry Audel, striker Vadaine Oliver and winger Lee Molyneux over the past few weeks. He is also currently taking a look at trialist Luke Giverin, who is keen for regular action having being released by Manchester United.

“The most important thing I’ve done is to get to know the agents,” Davis told the Crewe Chronicle. “That been key to being able to discuss deals with them more easily, getting in their heads to know what things they are looking for in negotiations.

“The most difficult transfer I’ve had to deal with since I became manager at Crewe was Mathias Pogba, when it took several days to secure his signature,” he added. “There have been a few difficult ones
since, but you get used to the conversations with agents, the chairman, the agents again and clubs.”
