Relegated Crewe Alexandra suffered a seventh straight defeat at home to Scunthorpe United.

That was despite full-back Ollie Turton giving them an early advantage that was cancelled out by Luke Williams just before the break.

Hakeeb Adelakun then earned the visitors the lead and Williams forced in another from close-range prior to Marcus Haber’s 79th minute reply.

The Railwaymen’s relegation was confirmed last week but they had an ideal start as Turton’s dipping 25-yard effort beat goalkeeper Joe Anyon.

However, Paddy Madden set up Williams to equalise ahead of the interval and the provider also went close following the restart.

Anyon then saved at the feet of Callum Ainley before Adelakun turned in Madden’s cross with just over an hour played.

And it wasn’t long before Williams bundled in a third goal for the visitors after Madden was blocked on the line.

Home substitute Zoumana Bakayogo later delivered for Haber to reduce the deficit with just over ten minutes remaining.
