Summer recruit Michael West is facing a race against time to be fit for the weekend Capital One Cup tie against Hartlepool United.

The former Ebbsfleet United winger has missed training since taking a blow to his heel in the weekend pre-season game at Tamworth.

West, 21, signed a two-year deal at Gresty Road only last month but is still rather adjusting to the demands of the professional game having played part-time for the previous three seasons.

“Michael has come from part-time football and his body is adjusting to full-time football,” manager Steve Davis told Alex’s official website. “He is a great lad to work with and has worked really hard since he came here.”
