Wideman’s 1st Goal In 2 Months Gives Away Success

Charlie Kirk’s 6th goal of the season saw Crewe Alexandra beat promotion contenders MK Dons at Stadium:MK yesterday afternoon, the hosts with the 2nd best home record going into the game.

Manager David Artell made one change from last Saturday’s win at home to Newport with Eddie Nolan replacing the injured Nicky Hunt at the heart of the back 4.

The opening opportinuty came in the opening minute with Perry Ng shooting wide from just outside the area before Chuks Aneke (who spent 2 seasons on loan from Arsenal earlier in his career with the Alex) headed wide from a long throw into the area. Kirk, James Jones and Ng had efforts before Aneke would have a decent effort after a mistake from George Ray, hitting his effort straight at Ben Garratt.

On the half-hour mark, Peter Pawlett turned a right-wing cross into the net which was disallowed due to an offside moments before Kirk would get the only goal of the game after Ryan Wintle had played the wide-man through down the left.

The second half continued in the same way with Jordan Bowery and Jones testing the Dons defence before Lowery, off the bench for Callum Ainley, tested Nicholls with a mis-hit cross before Wintle would also have a goal disallowed for a foul by Lowery in the build-up.

We have two home games on the next two Saturdays with Colchester United rounding out January’s fixtures and Carlisle United the following week.

What have we learnt from this game?
