Gareth Whalley has joined Altrincham today after being released from Swindon Town.

Whalley began his career at Gresty Road in 1992, after which he played for six years in a red shirt totaling over 200 appearances before leaving for Bradford City in 1998 for £600k.

Whalley made over 100 appearances for Bradford before moving back to Crewe at the end of the 2001/2002 season on loan, and eventually leaving Valley Parade in the summer of 2002. He went on to play for successful Cardiff and Wigan sides before moving to Swindon Town in summer 2005.

With his career seemingly winding down though he was released from Swindon this summer and has had trials with various clubs, including Macclesfield Town.

However, Whalley has opted to go part-time and joined Blue Square Premier (Conference) club Altrincham today.

He’ll be playing alongside former Alex team mate Colin Little and recently released Alex youngster Cavell Coo.
