Manager Steve Davis has warned his Crewe Alexandra players that their Wembley places are still very much on the line.

“Only results and performances will keep them in” – Steve Davis

The Alex face the prospect of eight league games before their showpiece occasion with League Two Southend United in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final on 7th April.

But with Davis still harbouring clear ambitions of a second Wembley visit in the play-offs, he insists that his charges must give him absolutely everything for the remainder of their league programme.

“You might get one or two who think they can protect themselves but it is up to me to not allow that to happen,” Davis told the Crewe Chronicle. “If they think they can ease off I’ll get someone else in. They have to play for their places. In a few weeks’ time the team could be different, only results and performances will keep them in.”
