Welshmen On International Duty

|

In this column, we look at the two players who have represented their country this month.

Billy Sass-Davies would come on as a second-half stoppage-time substitute for Wales Under-21s in their 1-0 defeat in Moldova on Friday before playing the full game in tonight’s 5-0 defeat against the Netherlands in Nijmegen, winning his 4th and 5th caps for the Under-21s.

They sit in 5th place in their group (the top team advance to the finals with the 2nd-placed team going into the play-offs) and will travel to Gilbraltar and host Switzerland in the next international break next month.

Also on duty for the Welsh, this time at Under-19 level, is fellow defender Zac Williams. A late call-up for the squad following Bournemouth’s Owen Bevan’s withdrawal, Williams was an unused sub for the Welsh in their 0-0 draw against Georgia on Wednesday before making his debut in their 5-0 defeat against Norway on Saturday. He would also come on for the final 5 minutes in their 3-0 win over Kosovo this afternoon but, after Georgia’s win against Norway, it won’t be enough for the Welsh to get through to the next stage of qualifying unless they are the best third-placed finisher (some groups aren’t being played until next month’s international break).

There are currently no fixtures planned for Wales’ Under-19s or Under-18s.
