Kelvin Mellor was simply relieved to get back into the action for the Capital One Cup tie at West Ham United earlier this week.

The 21-year-old was forced to miss the whole of pre-season after recent ankle surgery until finally making a timely return to the starting line-up at Upton Park on Tuesday evening.
“It was great to my comeback and it was a great game to make my return in,” Mellor told Crewe’s official website. “It was a real test, but I thought I did okay – I just need match-fitness.
“There was no reaction to my injury, and I am just glad to be back, now it is about trying to keep my place,” he added.
Mellor managed seventeen appearances for the Alex last season, including in their glorious play-off final victory at Wembley.
His form recently attracted an offer from Championship side Derby County until he turned it down in favour of a new two-year deal at Gresty Road.
