“We Were Vulnerable Right Across The Back Four”

Holland gave his view to the miserable 4-2 defeat at the hands of Carlisle to crewealex.net “The story of the game was what happened in the two penalty areas. We had plenty of chances and had a lot more of the possession than we have previously when coming here but Carlisle were a lot more clinical than us.”

“They were also defensively better than us because we have ended up conceding four goals this afternoon and that says it all. We were vulnerable right across the back four and we know that needs improving. That is to take nothing away from Carlisle. I thought they attacked really well, although we were disappointed with some of the goals we conceded. They were avoidable.”

“We found ourselves 2-0 down fairly quickly and being behind at Carlisle is hard enough to overcome, never mind with 70 minutes still to go. To their credit the players kept themselves going and scored a well-worked goal soon after. Chris has got in there and we were back in the game. We had decent chances after that as well. Baudet hit the bar with a header and Byron had a good shooting opportunity from outside the penalty area, which he should have put on target but he blazed over. The players had plenty of the ball and in the second half Joel had a great chance to score but didn’t. He was then defending their centre forward in front of me and we will have to see what happened after that because Dobie has gone in and made it 3-1 when it should have been 2-2.”

“So it is a game of ifs and maybes for us. We were pleased with the chances we created here, but looked vulnerable at the back.”

In his usual positive style Holland managed to pick out on positive from the game in James Bailey. He said “I was pleased with James Bailey. It was only his third senior game and he looks fine in there. I am learning about him all the time and he is holding his own at this level.”
