Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis admitted his side fell badly short against non-league visitors Eastleigh in their FA Cup first round tie.

“We were terrific last week and this week we produced a real poor performance” – Steve Davis

Ben Strevens scored the only goal from the penalty spot with fifteen minutes remaining after replacement goalkeeper Dan Nizic felled substitute Ross Lafayette.

Starting keeper Ben Garratt had already been sent-off for fouling the lively Yemi Odubade as the National League side moved into the second round.

“I was very hopeful that we could produce a performance and a result that would take us through to the next round,” Davis told Crewe’s official website. “But we fell well short of that with the performance we put in, which was disappointing.

“There was a real lack of quality in the game with a lot of young players very nervous,” he conceded. “We were terrific last week and this week we produced a real poor performance.”
