Manager Steve Davis was happy with the character of his side as they again came from behind to defeat Wycombe Wanderers 4-1 in their FA Cup first round tie at Gresty Road.

“The boys showed character to get back in the game again” – Steve Davis

The Alex struck twice in each half through Mathias Pogba, Mark Ellis, on loan Chuks Aneke and skipper Luke Murphy after the visitors had earned an early lead following a bad error from goalkeeper Alan Martin. Crewe’s Harry Davis also saw a 53rd minute penalty saved.

“We didn’t start the game particularly well again,” Davis told Crewe’s official website. “We were a little nervy and it took us a little time to get going and we went a goal behind from another mistake but the boys showed character to get back in the game again.”

The draw for the second round of the competition will be made tomorrow afternoon.
