Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis admitted his side were forced to work really hard to eventually see-off the challenge of Crawley Town at Gresty Road.

“I was relieved to get in at half-time at 0-0” – Steve Davis

An improved second-half display brought them a 2-0 victory courtesy of a double from on loan Fulham striker Lauri Dalla Valle. It took the Finnish Under-21 international’s personal tally to four goals in his first five appearances.

“We had to work hard for the win because we didn’t really control the game until the second half,” Davis conceded to Crewe’s official website. “It was fairly even in the first half with a few chances either way. We started quite well but Crawley came more into it.

“I was relieved to get in at half-time at 0-0,” he continued. “Not conceding in the first half gave them confidence and we were much better in the second half and it is important that we can grind those sorts of wins out.”
