Crewe Alexandra full-back Matt Tootle said he was desperate to win at Wembley for his close friend Adam Dugdale.

“The most important thing was that we won the game” – Matt Tootle

Dugdale tragically lost his new-born son last week and team-mate Tootle really wanted to ensure that Alex lifted the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy in his memory.

“It has been an emotional time in the build up to the game,” he explained to Crewe’s offical webite. “I massively wanted to come here and win the Cup for him and Nicola.

“We had to come here and win it for Duggy,” Tootle added. “The most important thing was that we won the game. It wasn’t so much about the performance.”
