Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis witnessed his side suffering a second successive defeat against bottom club Portsmouth at Gresty Road.

“We had a mountain to climb being 2-0 down at half-time” – Steve Davis

Recalled striker Mathias Pogba scored his thirteenth goal of the season after the break but the visitors were already on their way to a 2-1 victory.

“We didn’t defend the two goals well and we had a mountain to climb being 2-0 down at half-time,” Davis admitted to Crewe’s official website. “The crowd let us know what they thought at the break and rightly so. We needed more effort, drive and ideas.

“We weren’t clinical enough and that has been the case for much of the season,” he added. “We very rarely score more than one goal and when you are chasing a 2-0 that becomes difficult.”
