Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis reckoned his side deserved to come away with a point following a narrow 1-0 defeat at Shrewsbury Town.

‘It was a stone wall penalty as far as I am concerned’ – Steve Davis

Luke Summerfield headed the only goal just before the interval shortly after the visitors had strong claims for a penalty turned down for a clear shove on striker Lauri Dalle Valle inside the area.

“I felt it was a penalty when Lauri was pushed,” Davis admitted to Crewe’s official website. “It was a stone wall penalty as far as I am concerned. I don’t think you will get a more obvious one than that but there you go.

“We came out second half and dominated the possession,” he added. “I didn’t think we did enough to win the game but I thought we deserved a point for our efforts.”

The Alex are once again on their travels in midweek when visiting second-placed Sheffield United, who were 4-1 winners against fellow promotion hopefuls Stevenage.
