Defender Matt Tootle reckons Crewe Alexandra have the right mix for a promotion challenge next season.

“We’ve got a young team, but we are not young in terms of experience” – Matt Tootle

The 21-year-old believes the current blend of youth and experience can fire the Alex much higher than their mid-table finish in their first campaign back in League One.

“We’ve got a young team, but we are not young in terms of experience,” Tootle told This is Staffordshire. “One of the things that Steve Davis and Neil Baker have kept drumming home to us is the need to be more consistent with our performances.

“I think now we are all one year older and wiser we can reach that level more often – and if we play well we can get results against anyone in this division,” he reasoned.
